Marcus Gibson, 62, was in a Buick Lacrosse traveling west on County Road 602 in Pilesgrove Township around 1:30 p.m. when he crossed the center line and drove off the road to the left, NJ State Police said.

The sedan re-entered the roadway between Country Lane and Sharptown-Auburn Road, crossed all lanes, veered off to the right, overturned, and collided with a mailbox and utility pole, authorities said.

The vehicle then caught on fire.

Gibson was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

His 62-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to Cooper University Hospital for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.
